Week 8 Round-Up

Thankfully the weather did not intervene in Week 8, which saw a great weekend for all the senipr teams.

The 1st XI faced Newbury – a tough assignment and our record against them has been poor. Winning the toss and batting first, Ascot scored an average total of 180 all out of 51.1 overs. Wensley 23, Gamble 19, Sweetman 34, Mohain 25, Try 21 & Wiggett 21 all contributed without anyone going on to make a big score.

At 97 for 1, the writing was on the wall, but then a collapse led by Ascot great – Kevin May with 5 for 49 and Mike Brown with 3 for 14 – saw Newbury fall to 139 all out.

25 points and 3rd place consolidated in 3A, 12 points behind Thatcham Town and 16 points behind Aldershot.

The 2nd XI went to Hurst 2nds and fielded first after winning the toss. A solid performance saw Hurst restricted to 169 all out off 42.5 overs with 4 for 46 for Andy Murray. The 2nds won comfortably in the end reaching the total for the loss of 4 wickets with stalwart Howard Green marking his return to the club with 90 not out.

20 points and still in 1st place in 6B – 18 points ahead of Wargrave 2nd.

The 3rd XI faced Finchampstead 4s at Locks Ride. A strong total of 250 for 7 declared in 44 overs was reached with 60 from Jack Lunghusen and a superb 86 not out from Berkshire U14 Ollie Dunnett. However, Finchampstead were able to hold out for the draw finishing on 208 for 7.
