Week 13 – Draw, Win, Draw, Draw

The 1s had a top of the table clash with Thatcham Town. Skipper Sweetman won the toss and decided to bat. Good contributions all round from Gamble 39, Sweetman 38, Miller 41 not out and Lunghusen 36 saw Ascot reach a respectable 204 for 8 off 52 overs. Thatcham were soon in trouble at 30 for 4 with Kevin May taking a 4 for but resilience from the middle and late order saw Thatcham survive for the draw on 162 for 9.

Ascot are now only 1 point behind Thatcham and entertain Fleet on Saturday.

Could the 2s rebound from last week’s defeat? With the late withdrawal of skipper Carr to injury being a blow Wargrave 2s won the toss and elected to bat.

However, the bowling attack didn’t miss Jason as they bowled them out for 120 in 40.5 overs. Murray, Saeed & Chapman taking 3 wickets each. At 29 for 3 it looked like Ascot were in trouble but another great innings from Ollver Dunnett 49 not out and Tharindu 34 saw Ascot home by 6 wickets.

Ascot are now 30 points ahead and are away to 4th place Theale & Tilehurst 2s.

The 3s were away at Eversley 3s and Richard Wyatt won the toss and elected to bat. A strong total of 223 for 6 was reached based around Oshea’s 70 not out and good contributions from Barter 35, Clarke 42 and Anderson 30.

Mike Wyatt (4 for 36) and Elliott Coggins (4 for 39) reduced Eversley to 77 for 7 but the 8th wicket held out until near the end and Eversley  held out for the draw 8 wickets down.

Ascot are still 10 points clear at the top and entertain Maidenhead & Bray 3s.

The 4s played Eversley 4s who won the toss and elected to bat. They reached 251 for 7 off 44 overs declared with Payne and Dummigan picking up 3 wickets each. Eversley then controlled one end with the excellent bowling of Hammond who took 8 for 68 in 19 overs but the 4s held out for a draw with 193 for 9 thanks to Payne’s 70 and 34 not out by Hosegood.

Ascot are now in 6th place but only 16 points behind Theale & Tilehurst 3s who are second. Ascot are at Bagshot 3s on Saturday.
