Week 18 – The Long & Winding Road

First of all, congratulations to our Under 11s who became Berkshire Champions on Sunday and well done to our Under 13s who just missed out but are Runners-Up in Berkshire.

Overall, our colts section has gone from strength to strength and our Girls section is increasing in number.

The final weekend of the season with just pride to play for.

The 1s were at home to Reading. Reading won the toss and put on a competitive 225 all out with 2 balls remaining. Jack Beaven top scored with 52 while Andy Murray was the pick of the Ascot bowlers with 3 for 19.

In response, Ascot kept losing wickets at key times and no one could push on to a big score as Nick Sweetman and Christo Arundel top scored with 25. Sanjit Jhetta took 4 for 39 as Reading bowled out Ascot for 146 all out.

The 2s finished the season at Henley 3s. Henley won the toss and elected to bat first. Henley were 155 all out off 42.5 overs with Adam Lubbock top scoring with a quickfire 35. Myles Trainor and Aarav led the bowling as they have throughout the season with 3 fors.

Ascot were soon in trouble at 1 for 2 and then 60 for 5 but Rob Handley 51 not out and Nick Wiggett 29 not out battled to a 4 wicket victory. Saqib Javid was the pick of the bowlers with 3 for 33.

The 3s were at Windsor Great Park against Kidmore End 2s. The 3s opted to bowl first and in the end Kidmore End reached 143 all out off 41 overs with Peter Roseff top scoring with 39. Mike Wyatt was the pick of the Ascot bowlers with 4 for 17.

However, Kidmore End’s total was 50 too many as Ascot crumbled to 91 all out with Matt Hurdwell top scoring with 24 not out and Azhar Udeen starring with ball with 4 for 11.

The 4s were the visitors to Boyne Hill 4. While the 4s were relegated, Boyne Hill needed a win to avoid relegation.

Ascot won the toss and batted first. James Docker 72 and Satpal Singh Madhan 70 starred in a total of 268 for 6 off 40 overs. In reply Arindam Ghosh’s 115 led the charge but they fell short by 25 runs and the result at Finchampstead 5s saw them relegated.
