2020 Season – April Update

Unfortunately, while the weather outside is great for cricket and the ground and the clubhouse are looking amazing – it looks like it will be another couple of months at least before any cricket can start.

Colts Updates

Colts parents and carers should be getting regular updates from Martyn Hall via the age group managers. If you have not received anything then please contact your age group manager – details can be found here.

The Berkshire Cricket Foundation have given an update on youth cricket this week. Further details can be found here.  As expected the 2020 fixtures for the season have been frozen. The County Cups for Under 13s and Under 15s are suspended and unlikely to take place while any competitive cricket for the season is under review as further guidelines are awaited as and when cricket can be played. A new schedule will be drawn-up as the traditional Finals Day for the season has been abandoned.

Seniors Update

The first three rounds of the Thames Valley Cricket League have been abandoned and the latest update from the ECB, which you can find here, states that professional cricket will not be played until at least the 1st July and that the suspension of recreational cricket remains until further notice.

Updates are also being e-mailed to members, if you have not received any e-mails this month then please contact the Club Secretary, Andy Murray at royalascotcc.secretary@gmail.com.

Just over a week ago we ran the 3s v 4s virtual Test Match. On Monday we will be starting the 1s v 2s virtual Test Match – with commentary after each session.

Clubhouse Phase 2 Update

A lot of work has been done over the winter again, as we continue to improve the clubhouse. The kitchen has been completely refurbished thanks to stellar Club Captain Jason Carr with help from Howdens.

The area at the back of the clubhouse has been totally reconfigured so that we have a new home changing room including new showers, a new space has also been created for a new umpires room including shower and the gents toilets have also had a significant overhaul.

Providing PPE

Led by Rob Handley, the club have provided PPE to help support the efforts led by Georgie Tindall on several Facebook groups to provide PPE to staff in local hospitals and care homes as well as food packages, treats and toiletries to local NHS staff who are doing an amazing job in such difficult times.

Fantasy Cricket League

In order to have some cricket going, we will still be launching the Fantasy Cricket League next week.

The league will be based on the cricket simulator we are using for the Test Matches – and the performances will be based on the “virtual” fixtures for the first 9 weeks of the season in the Thames Valley Cricket League for all 4XIs.

The cost to join will be £30 – and half of the money raised will go to help support the club and the other half of the money will be given back as prizes.

Since these are virtual matches, anyone wishing to join (current or past members, colts parents or carers, family or friends) can also opt-in to be a player for one of the sides if you commit to joining by Saturday 2 May.

You can still join (but may not be one of the players) by 12pm on Saturday 9 May, when you’ll need to have picked your Week 1 team.

If you would like to join then please e-mail marc.r.ames@gmail.com. Further details will also be added on the closed Facebook group and e-mail.
